BEST OF BRITISH GALA NIGHT
Wednesday, July 14
On Wednesday, July 14, Best of British Gala Night returns to Kempton Park Racecourse.
British opera star Natasha Marsh, 32, is set to prick the ears of her most eclectic audience yet – a stable full of racehorses, who will be treated to unique operatic recitals before competitive races.
The musical experiment is designed to motivate the runners competing in seven fixtures at Kempton Park racecourse as part of its Best of British Gala Night celebrations on 14th July, an established event on the racing calendar that includes Scottish Pipes & Drums and a spectacular fireworks display.
The Surrey racecourse is not averse to staging unique musical recitals hosting the world’s first horserace to a live musical soundtrack last July when the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performed William Tell’s Overture during a one mile three furlong race. At the time scientists credited the classical music with helping the horses run faster, and animal behavioural psychologists will also be on hand this year to judge whether there is a similar reaction to opera music.
Dr. Roger Mugford, psychologist from the Animal Behaviour Centre, comments:
“It is well known that professional sportspeople play music to motivate themselves before big games, so it will be interesting to see whether a big operatic performance has a rousing effect on the racehorses when they step out of the stables onto the racecourse.”
Amy Starkey, managing director of Kempton Park, comments:
“The Best of British Gala Night is a night of top class entertainment and racing is always popular so we recommend race-goers get their tickets early to judge for themselves.”
Natasha Marsh will be performing live to race-goers as part of the Best of British Gala Night entertainment with trainers given the option to play her music directly into their horse’s stable. Ticket prices start from £15. Click here to book.
Join us for a truly unforgettable evening of horse racing and entertainment including a traditional jazz band, a pearly King & Queen, the dapper chaps of racing, Lord & Lady Goldwyn, balloon modellers and face painters. After racing there will be a treat for the ears and the voice as the Scottish Pipes & Drums take to the racetrack for a very special performance accompanied by opera star Natasha Marsh - sing along and join the fun! The evening will draw to a to close with a fantastic firework finale!
This is an evening not to be missed!
