Help…I’ve never placed a bet before!
Don’t panic – it’s easy… | 1 | Firstly review your racecard and choose your horse. | | 2 | Choose your style of betting. You can bet with a bookmaker where you will be offered fixed odds (the likelihood of your horse winning) or place a bet with the Tote, where your money will be added to their country-wide pool and you will receive a proportional cut if you win. | | 3 | The higher the odds, (where the difference between the first and second numbers are greater – ie 100/1 rather than 2/1 or 7/4) the less chance the bookmakers think the horse has of winning the race. The shorter the odds (where the difference between the first and second numbers are smaller – ie 2/1) the more chance the bookmaker thinks the horse has of winning the race. | | 4 | Like the horse, but not confident of the win? Go each way! This means you will win if your horse is placed in the race (placings vary per race dependent on the number of horses competing – check before you place your bet). | | 5 | Choose your best viewing position, get ready, cheer on your horse | | 6 | Collect your winnings and then celebrate in style! |
We’ll hold six or seven races per fixture, as well as show live racing action from other courses – so watch carefully, take notes and pick a winner!
