Did you know?

When the Prince of Wales visited Kempton in July 1889, the racecourse did not have a Royal Box.  In order to accommodate his visit, a box was constructed and suitably furnished in 21 days

A fire in 1932 destroyed the grandstand, restaurant, member’s stand, grill room and Tattersalls bar

The 1955 Easter meeting at Kempton Park attracted a record crowd of 54,000 racegoers

Arkle won the King George VI Chase in 1965 ridden by Pat Taaffe.  His son Tom is the trainer of Kicking King who won the race in 2004 and 2005 (held at Sandown Park)

The first race under Rules for lady riders in Britain was run at Kempton Park on Saturday 6th May 1972.  The winning jockey was Miss Meriel Tufnell coming home on Scorched Earth at 50-1

The great Desert Orchid won the King George VI Chase a record four times during his career in 1986, 1988, 1989 and 1990
