The History behind the horseracing

Kempton Park was purchased by Henry Hyde in 1872 when he saw the estate for sale and decided it was the perfect site for a racecourse.  As a result of his efforts and drive, a company was formed and a racecourse built.  The first fixture took place on Thursday 18th July 1878.

Kempton Park enjoyed 127 years of flat turf racing before closing its gates on Monday 2nd May for development to begin on constructing Europe’s Premier Floodlit Racecourse.
